Appointed as lead consultant by Ecorys for the Study on Renewable Energy and Research and Innovation Capacity of Sub-Saharan Africa: - Scoping report – South Africa for solar PV and CSP and has worked closely with Ecorys in developing sustainable business strategies for the region.

• Appointed to develop a basket of Renewable Energy solutions for off grid and grid tied communities in Africa as well as bulk storage solutions for renewable energy markets• Liaise with local authorities and utilities within Africa as how to develop sustainable off grid and grid tied solutions. • Compile commercial and bankable feasibility reports for products and projects as discussed above• Appointed to develop a Stargate software engine that is suited for African Telco environment whereby the Stargate engine accelerates down load speed as well as reduces bandwidth consumption. • Appointed to head-up R&D teams for industrialisation and commercialisation of product development for bulk storage solutions and Stargate software development on mobile devices.

Technical team leader in investigating and developing distributed RE business cases for Mobile Network Operators (MNO) in Africa. Activities involve:• Investigate renewable energy solutions for off grid applications.• Investigate power requirements and affordability of the local communities and other potential commercial off takers. • Coordinate development of rural off grid solutions with local electricity authorities. • Consider the establishment of local low and medium voltage distribution networks that can be used to deliver excess electricity generated to local communities• Combine current diesel generation with that of solar and wind and thereby reduce electricity costs.• Consider grid tied solutions whereby excess electricity can be fed back into the grid.• Present findings and solutions to EU development community for grant and project financing.

Off Grid RE Power Solutions:• Consults closely with DME and Eskom regarding off grid electrification projects. • Investigate current free basic energy policy as well as Governments rural electrification policy and determine how best to unlock funds from various stakeholders.• Look at renewable energy solutions for rural schools and clinics and ways of providing electricity be it grant, subsidised or corporate social development funding. • Engaged with the development of a PV rooftop program that with be presented to Eskom and Government. The program addresses a number of key criteria such as SME development, renewable generation which is aligned to Government IRP2010 power generation programme. • Considering cost of Eskom electricity, review municipal finance act and policy with respect to supply of renewable energy to municipalities and local communities who have no electricity. Consider impact on the distribution network and extension thereof.• Look at integrated smart grids and billing.Grid tied RE Power Solutions:• Compile and coordinate concept designs and business cases for renewable energy projects. • Ensure compliance to RFP documentation for the South African DoE RE IPP programme. • Coordination of EIA applications• Coordination of land lease agreements• Coordination and review of RE farm design• Coordination of Eskom grid connection and application• Coordination of EPC bids. • Compile implementation project plans with associated cash flow requirements and resource loading. • Liaise with local communities with respect to participation with the PV project. • Conduct local skill set audit and training

Prefeasibility Study of establishment of a 5GW solar Park consisting of PV, CSP and Industrial Development Zone to support RE technologies, production and construction.Activities investigated:• Establishment of a the 5GW solar park• Compliance with National Development Plan for renewable energy• Site selection• Local Economic Development• Advancement of historically disadvantaged communities. • Investigate grid capacity and ways of increasing capacity• Consider the development of a renewable energy development zone which will address production, manufacturing and downstream business opportunities.

Lead consultant for the renewable energy cluster (300MW solar/wind) for the Saldanha Bay IDZ development program: Activities include:• Consultation with local community with respect to skills audit and potential job creation• Interface with industrial off takers, power purchase agreements• Investigate surplice power generated for local rural electrification • Development of solar manufacturing facilities and how best such can be utilised to provide renewable energy solutions for local off grid communities.

Prefeasibility study for the establishment of a 250MW cola and geothermal power plant and associated HV transmission line.

Prefeasibility study for the establishment of a 480MW LNG power plant and associated HV transmission line. The project also included the feasibility of establishing a 250MW HFO power plant on the island of Zanzibar.
