I have worked in and become proficient in many areas of a clinical Laboratory. Ive gone from Registration, checking in patients, filling out demographics forms. To Phlebotomy, collecting blood and samples, interpreting lists of tests and abbreviations. To Processing, sending out all manner of specimens across the country, and getting things ready to be tested, solving problems and collection errors. And Into Lab Assistant, running tests and preparing more advanced tests to be run, troubleshooting and calibrating our analyzers, running QC, Fixing machines, preparing reagents, fixing more machines. I have also been an ambassador to clinics that send samples to our lab and have built relationships. People would often ask for me by name, as well as seek me out for help. Each advancement did not mean I abandoned my previous jobs either, when registration is backed up, I would still register patient samples. When all the of the Phlebotomists have been called in house or are backed up in outpatients, I help draw. I still process and send out samples. I still order supplies and make sure things are stocked. To me, getting a new job title didn’t mean I was above doing everything else, It just meant I could help out more and I did, I have, and will where ever I go.
