My first assignment with Los Angeles World Airports was in the Human Resources Services. I was responsible for recruiting and supervising the Community Administrative Support Worker program. The program consisted of 20 positions. I interviewed well over 200 individuals during my 18 month term with HR. I conducted training classes and also started to open dialogue with Veteran's groups to help train and hire returning veterans. In my last last year in HR, I was also trained in discipline cases and helped conduct workplace violence and disciplinary interviews.I transferred to the LAX Terminal Operations Division to further enhance the skills I learned in HR. In Operations, I was responsible for the Airport Guide programs which employs over 200 people. We had employees from all over the world making it one of the most diverse workplaces I have ever seen.I conducted interviews along with my manager for over 250 people. I supervised the lead Airport Guides and trained them on progressive discipline, advanced supervision and Equal Employment Opportunity workplace rights. I also counseled individuals and created a plan to reduce workplace injury complaints.By the end of my 14 month term with Operations, I had also created a new Airport Guide program, which would utilize a targeted customer service approach by implementing new technologies. My plan would have saved the airport approximately $900,000 a year, while focusing on improving customer service and employee morale.
