As the founder of Kontent Films, Mark Decena wears a lot of hats. As a writer, director and producer, Mark has created award winning work in narrative and documentary feature films, shorts, television programming, commercials and web films.Mark produced and co-wrote Kontent's latest project, "Stand Up Planet", an hour long television documentary airing on LinkTV, KCET and Pivot. www.standupplanet.orgHis feature documentary, "Watershed", executive produced and narrated by Robert Redford, explores a new water ethic in the Colorado River Basin, highlighting solutions for issues across the globe.His feature mockumentary, "Unflinching Triumph", was nominated for a Webby, recognized by the Wall Street Journal as a new media "Top 5 What-to-watch", and called out by Sports Illustrated as “the most amusing parody of 2006.” Mark's first feature film, "Dopamine", premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival's Dramatic Competition, winning the first Alfred P. Sloan Prize. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times said, “... in one way or another, Dopamine is about us… it holds as its treasure, a belief in the possibility of love… 3 1/2 Stars.” For television, Decena wrote narration for 18 episodes for PBS’s “Design e2”, and directed “Portland: A Sense of Place” for the critically acclaimed series. Mark also developed a work place drama pilot for Fox Television's New Voices Program. His short films have been accepted at Sundance, Toronto, Mill Valley, Gen Art, as well as other domestic and international film festivals, while his commercial work has been recognized by the One Show, Clios, Andys and the San Francisco Show to name a few. As an alumni of the Sundance Institute Filmmaker / Screenwriter Labs, Mark has also served as a mentor for AFI’s Digital Content Lab. He is also an active member the San Francisco Film Society: a multiple finalist for the Kenneth Rainen and Hearst screenwriting grants.Mark loves his wife, two kids, trees and riding his bike to work.
