As the world turns, Continental bought 100% of Synerject, and now they spin us off to Vitesco. I remain as engineering manager of Electronics for what is the Product Line Non-Automotive. My team is presently 14, spread in 3 continents.

Leader of Engineering Center of Competence for Electronic Hardware at Synerject. Simply put, this group designs the ECUs for our systems.

Manage operational and technical activities of several simultaneous embedded controller projects for Mercury Marine and Woodward. Ensure adherence to product launch procedures while striving to meet schedule and budget. Primary interface for technical issues, leading peer, management, and customer reviews. Develop quotes for new products and model year improvements including concept design, creation of schedules, assessment of headcount needs and required skills, solicitation of validation test, manufacturing labor, and tooling costs. Prioritize activities of three dedicated project team members, including goal alignment and performance reviews.* Lead fast-paced technical quote which secured $19M lifetime contract for an embedded controller with an extremely low price target for new and existing Mercury Marine outboard engines. At launch, timing, cost, and design of the end product were substantially close to quote, ensuring immediate return on investment.* Launched 15 new models in 6 product families while maintaining supplier of the year status. Controllers for Mercury's Zeus x-by-wire joystick control system launched on time in spite of an aggressive schedule and resource limitations.

Responsible for overall customer relationship and profit / loss for $21M embedded controller business for Mercury Marine and Woodward. Prepared and managed annual budget. Analyzed P&L for anomalies and affected change to maintain profitability. Collaborated with manufacturing, finance, quality, and account management to retain existing business and cultivate new opportunities. Determined final sales price of product in order to meet profit margin target. Led business reviews and strategic planning meetings with the customer. Conducted goal alignment, performance reviews, salary / promotion planning for 5 team members. * Nurtured two junior Design Team Leaders as they managed complex, fast-paced projects with limited, shared resources. This effort greatly raised the bar for the Design Team Leader role within this team.* This team was burned out when I came on board and there was much turnover. I interviewed many internal and external candidates for design team positions. Of all interviewed, the four engineers that I hired remain on the team in 2009.(Continental purchased Motorola's automotive division as of July 2006)

Application focal point for development and implementation of a new mixed-signal diesel injection ASIC. Interfaced with IC design team and ASIC vendor to drive requirements, track fabrication, and resolve test issues. Supported program managers by attending customer reviews to report the status of the ASIC development, a critical path item. Wrote application level test plan, designed a load box, and automated bench testing with scripts. Wrote electrical performance specification and functional specification, developed spreadsheet tools to aid end-users with proper register settings. Performed component stress analysis, specification compliance review, design review, and DFMEA for circuits connected to the ASIC in the end application. Supported product design team with integration of the ASIC into new engine control module designs. Worked closely with engineers responsible for injector and boost power supply driver stages to ensure correct performance. Assisted layout designer with component location and routing for stable operation of the ASIC. * Studied x-by-wire safety methodology, applied to embedded diesel engine controller design concepts.* Assisted product teams with new business quotations and test system development.* Accelerated problem solving of 3 major DV issues using the 8D process.

Directed the team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers in the design and testing of the Detroit Diesel DDECV engine control module. Lead engineer responsible for overall design and technical communication with customer. Ensured technical milestones were delivered on schedule, lead weekly reviews, set priority of action items, coordinated efforts of PCB layout and validation test departments. Responsible for review of customer requirements, proposed circuit designs, worst case analysis, DFMEA, and test plans. Optimized component placement for vibration robustness, thermal, and EMC performance. Supervised prototype builds, supported manufacturing and validation test system development.* Production launched on time and exceeding quality targets in spite of major change of scope mid stream.* Successfully incorporated new circuit options for additional engine applications with minimal impact to a dense layout by carefully interleaving component populations.* Significantly improved alignment with customer expectations by implementing specification compliance matrix and design change request process with this customer. This process highlighted several disconnects in expectations and provided clear communication channel to resolve the issues.

Progressively increasing levels of responsibility as a project team member. Tasks included new component research, basic circuit design, worst case analysis, simulation, bench testing, schematic capture, layout review, validation testing, and quote support.* Developed a complete bench top test environment for a new product including graphical user interface, test equipment selection, harnessing, and load box design.* Presented electrical design concepts of a proposal to a major diesel engine manufacturer.
