Lead Construction Engineer
Lead Construction Engineer – Al-Zour Refinery Project The Al-Zour Refinery will be one of the largest oil refineries with a total capacity of 615,000 barrels per day of export crude. The total project is budget is 15.9 billion dollars. Lead Construction Engineer for the project management contract (PMC) during site works. The position includes supervision of a team four engineers with indirect reporting from another six engineers and technicians. Initial site work included:• Pre-improvement of approximately 6 million square meters of subgrade by dynamic replacement, dynamic compaction and high energy impact compaction; • Placement and compaction of approximately 60 million cubic meters of hydraulic and land won fill;• Construction of heavy haulage roads;• Construction of a barge dock designed to receive refinery vessels, modules and construction materials. Engineering responsibilities were completed in August 2016 and included:• Construction support including site review of construction activities with direct daily contacts with the Contractor;• Review and approval of design reports and calculations, and material submittals for fill, aggregate, rip rap, geotextiles, asphalt, sheet piling and reinforcing steel;• Review of surveys, construction method statements and construction and as-built drawings; • Review of verification reports and supporting QCA documents for contract compliance;• Addressing Contractor queries;• Providing input regarding progress and schedule;• Maintaining Client contacts, updating the client with project progress.

The project has regulatory approval to produce up to 345,000 barrels per day of diluted bitumen. The project is budget is 12.9 billion dollars.Associate Engineer responsible for supervision of a team of six to ten engineers providing design and construction support. Engineering responsibilities included:• Site characterization of the main plant facilities, ore processing plants (Phases 1 and 2), and the hydro transport tailings corridors (phases 1 and 2);• External stability assessment and foundation recommendations for the ore processing plant (Phase 1) mechanically stabilized earth wall (20 meters high);• Stability assessment of permanent slopes at the ore processing plant (Phase 2) and design of the slope drainage system;• Preparation of inserts and review of the external tailings area 2010 and 2011 performance reports, the operations, maintenance & surveillance (OM&S) manual; and as-built reports for the north pad (tailings dike) and west debris dikes (Phase 1, Stages 1 and 2); • Stability and settlement evaluations for pipe line corridor and haul roads crossing muskeg and soft Holocene deposits; • Construction support including regular site visits and responses to construction requests for information and the assessment of specification and construction drawing deviations; • Maintaining client contacts, updating the client with project progress and any changes in scope.
