I led the development of a new vascular therapy. Four years previous, a colleague and I developed the rationale for a vascular approach to treating erectile dysfunction. During this period, I led the R&D and BD efforts to provide the business justification. With division approval, I led the first two design reviews before a full team was assigned. As SME, I participated in the FDA meeting that laid the ground for one of the few FIM clinical trials that started in the US for Medtronic. The completion of the clinical trial was a success, and the therapy was lauded as one of the top 3 innovations of the year in the vascular space at TCT.I was the lead stent design engineer for a biodegradable stent. Material, design, manufacturing, and biodegradation requirements all provided an exciting challenge.Some basic manufacturing operations had not been significantly changed in 15 years. I came up with a radical way to do them differently. The approach is being used in Medtronic's next two stent generations, and improves quality, saves cost, and increases throughput.

During this period, I designed the MicroDriver stent platform and assisted in the Driver stent development. I also spent 3 years developing the specifications, test methods, testing, and manufacturing validation for the Medtronic Melody Pulmonic Valve Replacement System. In parallel, I developed numerous versions of a percutaneous aortic valve system.

During this period, I developed a novel manufacturing method that enabled a new metals to be used in stent manufacturing and provide a cost savings of $10M/yr. I also provided R&D to Manufacturing engineering transfer for one generation of our coronary stent platform.

During my service as President, we built an outdoor education area, designed and constructed a Science and Imagination Gallery, completed a $8.3M capital campaign, and secured its future with not only the start of an endowment, but a strong infrastructure and board. While the Museum has received many awards, the most important ones are the excitement in the young innovators minds as they explore hands on experiences.
