"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending". - C.S. LewisIf you read some comments I get on LinkedIn you will see that some call me a "wolf in sheep's clothing", or "hunter turned gamekeeper", either way I'm fine with that as it points to the fact that I've turned things around for the better. So why do they say that? Well, for many years until October 2017 I used to work as an energy broker and managed teams selling commercial energy contracts. I'm sorry to say that I did my job well, like most employees of businesses do I worked hard and earned a good life as a result. However I like to think that I acted with integrity throughout, and earned a good reputation of looking after those who worked hard. At the time I had no idea that what energy brokers were doing was illegal, I always thought that if it was illegal it would have been stopped like the mis-selling that occurred in the insurance and mortgage sectors, but it never happened and so I kept on doing my job.But during my time in that industry I saw the amount of mis-selling that was going on and once day I spoke to a solicitor who educated me that it was against the law to hide commissions and act in the selling companies interests rather than the clients interests. Once I heard that I decided I could do it no longer and I resigned the very next day. That was 5th October 2017.I spent the next 3 years learning about the legal arguments, the duties owed by brokers to their clients and working out how best that could be applied to the energy broker market so that clients could reclaim hidden commissions and put things right. To that end it has now been proven in court that brokers do owe fiduciary duties to their clients and commissions need to be fully disclosed and I now pursue energy brokers for mis-sold energy contracts. So why do people say that I'm a wolf in sheep's clothing, well usually its because they feel threatened by the work that I now do, most brokers attacking me on Linkedin are scared that if the industry is regulated then they won't make the levels of commissions that they currently do . Transparent brokers aren't scared of regulation, I've spoken to enough transparent brokers in real life and on LinkedIn who agree that regulation is needed. So if you see somebody putting me or the business down have a little think about what their motives are, and understand that I'm only not responding because its a waste of my time and energy which I'd rather put into assisting clients or spending time with my family.
