I have lots of experience operating in linux and unix (and windows and os x from my UCSB days) since the days I ran a home server on bare iron from my closet in college.Graduated from bare iron in datacenters to vmware infrastructure including designing and building out the UCSB computer labs vmware esx/vsphere entire stack (and driving the "p2v" effort to consume it).Moved to operating in cloud at scale as a lead DevOps/Systems guy at RightScale (now acquired by Flexera) where I was a primary mover in adoption of container/docker/kubernetes while giving thrilling webinars and talks all about it. This included a dramatic restructuring in engineering to "shift left" all aspects of ownership of the stack to smaller more agile teams and moving away from the previous more centralized operations-as-owners-of-prod model.Joined AppFolio in the "Investment Management" subsidiary as an early member to design and build almost all aspects of the SDLC (process as well as infrastructure/framework concerns) as a full-stack ownership engineering structure while working directly with the architects of the application(s). Key bits of domain ownership in this area for me was strategy and design of network, infrastructure for all environments (dev, ci => staging => production), as well as tooling concerns for all envs.Operated a small web hosting and solutions design company I started in college for 20 years as a side-gig/passion project.I also hike, run and have an odd fondness for frisbee golf. And beer/wine. Which is why I hike and run.
