My role includes hosting events, providing emotional and academic support, and helping orient new students to the college campus experience. Additionally, my responsibilities include enforcing the rules and policies of UTC Housing & Residence Life.

As the Director of Mocs News, I am responsible for organizing our weekly broadcasts and editing them for publishing. I work closely with our Advisor, Mike Andrews, to conduct daily meetings with other student journalists to create a weekly rundown of stories. In this role, I have gained experience in many skills, including videography, editing software, graphics, teamwork, and leadership.

As a Day-Camp Instructor, my responsibilities were mainly focused on mentoring young children and leading outdoor sports adventures. I would work with Co-Instructors to plan out daily schedules and lessons to teach kids about different outdoor sports such as rock-climbing, mountain biking, and kayaking. We also held time for daily discussion to instill a sense of respect for nature, others, and themselves. The topics of discussion ranged from Leave No Trace principles to JEDI topics. I grew my communication skills from daily conversations and meetings with children, parents, co-instructors, and camp leadership, and I learned more about conflict resolution and problem solving.

In my role as a Team Supervisor, I oversaw different teams of camp counselors while they carried out their day to day activities. I was in charge of maintaining and supporting their mental and emotional wellbeing, and would help resolve conflicts between counselors and other staff or between campers. I was also in charge of the scheduling of breaks, communication between upper management and counselors, and filling in for sick counselors or counselors on break. Since we all lived at the camp 24/7 throughout the Summer, it was important that my fellow supervisor and I maintained relationships between the staff.
