Responsibilities:I manage both capex and larger client projects which entails various different aspects that need to be delivered and managed including but not limited to power (generator, UPS, AC and DC power), cooling, cage builds, containment builds, structured cabling (fibre and copper), basic civil and construction, environmental and systems monitoring, security (access control and video surveillance) which all include managing risks, contractors, suppliers, budget, timelines, health and safety and our processes and procedures. I am also involved in many aspect of the data centre from the structured cabling for interconnects, the wireless and satellite environments and infrastructure solution architecture.Some achievements:One of the Data Centre fit out projects which I delivered successfully comprised of a 4MW Energy Centre, a 1000sqm 2MW Data Centre Hall and a 2MW Cooling Plant. I successfully project managed the power upgrade for the Johannesburg East Data Centre offices which included a new transformer, generator, UPS and a complicated set of rewiring phases. I also delivered a Teleport expansion project on time and within budget that included a new generator and UPS installation with a containerized data centre. I also headed up the IT infrastructure projects for South Africa, Mozambique and Namibia. I delivered projects of various sizes in terms of both work load and costs. These projects greatly varied from new office buildings being constructed and fitted out from top to bottom with new IT equipment, office moves which included data migrations and IT equipment moves and project sites being set up in remote locations among others. I dealt with all IT Infrastructure vendors and service providers on all matters for service delivery.Some achievements:I Project Managed and designed the complete IT infrastructure and the installations for 3 newly constructed office buildings ranging from a 4000 network point/1500 user office with a R13mil IT budget to an 300 network points/80 user office with a R1mil IT budget. The IT infrastructure included everything from Server/Data Rooms, LAN and WAN copper and fibre networks, Telephony, server and data planning as well as the spec and procurement for the server and network equipment.
