CurrentThe OceanForesters are focused on global food security as the best first goal among the twelve of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) permanent ocean forest ecosystems address. These twelve SDGs are also steps toward ocean restoring biodiversity, global energy security, and storing carbon-from-air. This "end game" process appears sustainable supplying 600 quadrillion Btu of energy per year while storing CO2 back to 1960's atmospheric concentrations.The U.S. Department of Energy, Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, ARPA-E, has funded nine teams within its MARINER program to design significantly new ways (aka way outside the box) to grow and harvest macroalgae. The macroalgae is destined to become biofuel. The OceanForesters organized two of the nine Category 1 teams with the University of Southern Mississippi as the lead agency: AdjustaDepth and SeaweedPaddock. Each project has $500,000 to prepare a techno-economic analysis of their macroalgae grow-harvest ecosystem and a proposal for $3 to $4 million at-sea testing projects.OceanForesters teamed with the American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) Los Angeles Section Sustainability committee to win ASCE's inaugural Grand Challenge Innovation Contest in 2016 describing ocean forests. OceanForesters' also won in 2017 with permanent ocean forests adjusted for developing countries.
