The SSA Division provides and coordinates Army support to the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy and the Joint Staff J-8 in developing Support to Strategic Analysis scenario products to ensure the Services have a common foundation for force structure and force sizing decisions. SSA is the Army lead for input to and promulgation of the Defense Planning Scenarios and vignettes associated with the corresponding Multi-Service Force Deployment (MSFD) documents, as well as their use in studies, strategic exercises, and analysis of the data derived from these scenarios and documents. In addition, the SSA Division is responsible for working with OSD(Policy), OSD(CAPE), the Joint Staff (J8), as well as other Services to update and manage the scenarios used to size and shape the Services under the Support to Strategic Analysis program. Working as members of joint planning groups and with analytical tools and support from Center for Army Analysis, this division develops the Army inputs and coordination to establish OSD approved scenarios that allow the Army and other Services to work through the Quadrennial Defense Review, the Defense Planning Guidance, Total Army Analysis, and other national security related documents.
