About Mark Edel

Currently developing a visual programming environment with the lofty goal of relegating plain text to the save-file-format for the language (in this case, Python). The environment uses a more mathematical, rich-text representation that's fully keyboardable, but introduces many new interactive mechanisms including fully-automatic layout and the ability to integrate arbitrary graphical interfaces in to the editing process. It strives to be in every way better than plain text for every experience level. It also includes a shell environment that extends the same graphical editing capabilities to manipulating live data, as well as providing the unique ability to spatially organize code snippets and data.Highlights: Author of the popular text editor, NEdit, and a wide variety of software across many disciplines including augmented reality, high energy physics, avionics, high-performance graphics, supercomputing, semiconductor CAD, and embedded systems. Worked with both Charles Simonyi (father of Word and Excel) and Tim Berners-Lee (father of the Web). Did widely cited work on visual programming. Most recently, ran Visionix software department from inception to industry leadership in aircraft augmented reality.
