Third Option Foundation provides survivorship support to the Gold Star children and families of the CIA Special Activities Center (SAC) and offers medical services for active-duty operators, family resiliency and behavioral health services for operators and their families, and transition support for separating operators. Founded during WWII as part of the Office of Strategic Services, SAC has shouldered an unprecedented burden in the advancement of our nation’s security including a nearly unprecedented casualty rate in the war on terror. The majority of the stars displayed on the Memorial Wall at CIA headquarters honor lives lost within the ranks of SAC. The enormity of this responsibility has never been more evident than today given the wide-ranging and complex threats facing our country and the world.Since 9/11 alone, SAC has suffered the highest casualty rate and endured the longest continuous deployment cycle of any US military group serving overseas. However, due to the unique secrecy requirements of their covert service, operators and their families are not eligible for many of the existing private and public programs available to uniformed service members. To fill this gap in support, Third Option Foundation was established in 2013 and today provides the following programs for theoperators and families of the CIA Special Activities Center.
