For more than thirty years Mark has worked in environmental and social management relating to major resources and infrastructure development projects, particularly in the energy and water sectors. Mark has worked mostly in the upstream oil and gas sector for the past 20 years.As an Sustainability and ESG specialist he has wide experience ranging from in-depth technical office-based roles to more practical site-based assignments. He is equally capable in an advisory capacity to executive management, managing teams of in-house sustainability professionals, coordinating environmental and social studies outsourced to specialist consultants or undertaking technical assignments as an individual contributor. He derives a lot of professional satisfaction assisting clients to identify and capitalize on opportunities presented by the global energy transition that is currently underway.He has held key roles in hydrocarbon mega-projects including Shah Deniz Phase 1, Sakhalin II phase 2, Nord Stream and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline. Other notable projects include Woollybutt Field Development and Greater Western Flank seismic exploration (both NW Shelf, offshore Australia) and more recently Sea Lion FEED (Falkland Islands), Tortue Phase 2 and Ruche Phase 1 (Dussafu Block, offshore Gabon) and pre-FEED for Kudu Project, offshore Namibia.Mark’s expertise includes:* Project environmental approvals (ESIAs) and environmental engineering from planning through FEED and detailed design including production operations support* Corporate annual sustainability reporting and public disclosure aligned with GRI and TCFD recommendations.* Sustainability strategy development and implementation in independent hydrocarbon E&P companies* Greenhouse gas emissions estimation in accordance with GHG Protocol methodologies* Best available techniques (BAT) assessment of upstream hydrocarbon facilities* Borrower-side facilitation of international environmental and social compliance requirements for major loan facilities with Equator Principles Finance Institutions* Development of corporate and project-level policies, strategies, plans and procedures to meet the environmental and social guidelines of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Finance Corporation and World Bank Group* Safety management for the design, construction, and installation of large infrastructure projectsHe is currently a member representative on the Environmental Committee and Environmental Data Sub-Committee of the International Oil and Gas Producers Association (IOGP).
