Dr Everitt was a pioneer of numerical modelling of superconducting quantum interferences devices interacting with electrometric fields. He has also worked on the foundations of quantum mechanics where he made a number of important contributions including a new formulation of the correspondence principle, tests of “classicality” and formulating a fully quantum mechanical model of the projective measurement process. Dr Everitt has recently become interested the practical challenges of realising quantum technologies and leads the Quantum Systems Engineering Research Group at Loughborough University.As Director of Studies Dr Everitt led a redesign of the Loughborough Physics Degree. Aiming to maximise the calibre of our graduates equip them with grater capability and aspiration than provided by traditional degrees. The revision includes- a greater emphasis on fundamental principles of physics (bringing Hamiltonian and Lagrangian mechanics into the first semester of the first year) proving a solid foundation.- practical work that is focuses on design and build to better mimic professional environments. - substantial coding in recognition of the fact that programming’s central role in theoretical and experimental physics and for jobs in industry (including skills like clean coding, version control and TDD).- substantive group project work recognising collaborative nature of the discipline as well as the needs of employers.
