Development of the long-term strategy and strategic international outreach to key Governmental and major stakeholder groups that impact energy policy formation

Special project to lead market development for Anglo American’s innovative new crop nutrients business. Created advocacy/engagement plans for markets including EU, U.S. and UK. Built partnerships and engage governmental, regulatory and industry stakeholders to build confidence, influence regulation and enhance market access.

Identify the policy and regulatory opportunities and challenges that matter most for Shell’s gas strategy execution. Develop a coordinated external advocacy programme to deliver policy asks related to utilization of natural gas in priority markets.

Lead engagement with Danish Government and other key external stakeholders on all Shell Denmark business and reputational priorities.

- Led team engagement with UK Government on Shell business priorities, including arranging and briefing for CEO-level meetings. Maintained internal information flow to Shell stakeholders on key UK policy development via senior leader briefings and updated positions and lines- Achieved: Led project team planning Shell involvement in the London Commonwealth Business Summit (April 2018) to deliver; meetings for Shell CEO with incoming Heads of State; Shell senior leader keynote participation in Business Forum; excellent Shell brand positioning and display space design. - Achieved: Co-ordinated Shell’s Brexit response by designing & leading Working Group to bring together stakeholders across the variety of Shell business, and led this group to assess evolving developments and scenarios, analyse emerging business exposures, co-ordinate advocacy action across the Group.

- Formulated & implemented Shell new business development strategy in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Ensured that Shell had access and visibility at the highest levels of Government, and was seen as a trusted partner, and maintained and developed network of contacts to ensure key energy sector developments and competitive landscape were well understood. - Managed the activity and multi-million annual budget of two local representative offices, and guided the commercial teams in order to drive Shell’s in-country business development goals.

- Led engagement with policy makers that impact and have an interest in Shell’s businesses in Russia/CIS, including ministers and senior officials across UK Government and Parliament, as well as equivalents in the Netherlands, Brussels etc. - Achieved: Created a cross-disciplinary group to plan and co-ordinate interactions with EU and other Governments following imposition of western sanctions on Russia. This cross-disciplinary team assessed commercial exposures and implemented an engagement plan to mitigate key risks.

Develop and maintain relationships with UK government departments, their influencers and key stakeholders, to promote priority business projects and opportunities in Shell’s international portfolio; and support Shell advocacy on energy security and international business environment issues.

- Providing strategic advice and support to John Ashton (The Foreign Secretary’s SRCC), to drive forward FCO efforts to change the global politics of climate change. - Representing John Ashton with internal/external stakeholders to ensure that FCO climate change strategy is implemented and key external stakeholders are aligned to this effort.

Working as head of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) in Moscow - a government agency which assists UK companies wishing to export or invest overseas. Main tasks included;- Briefing British business visitors, trade mission delegations and local companies; providing advice, guidance, contacts and market intelligence to British business entering or already established in the market.- Liase with UK senior-level business in Russia (i.e. BP, Shell, PWC, Rolls Royce etc) to understand concerns and co-ordinate a UK Government approach to serious market-access issues- Attendance and regular speaking engagements at seminars, receptions and other events; hosting receptions for visiting trade missions- Management of Moscow, St Petersburg and Ekaterinburg trade teams (30 staff in total, over 90% Russian nationals); primary interface with UKTI on policy issues and management information returns.

Seconded to the HMT’s EU Co-ordination & Strategy Team during the UK’s Presidency of the EU. Responsibilities included co-ordination of briefing for the HMT negotiators in Brussels on euro policy and the Stability and Growth Pact.

Marketed the equity crude oil produced (250,000 barrels/day) and to establish and maintain the industry relationships necessary to do this. Also managed the P&L account and used derivatives to execute appropriate hedging strategies.As Business Analyst (‘98 – ‘99), worked in the Corporate Planning Department assessing Enterprise’s strengths, weaknesses and strategy options in a low oil price environment. Worked directly to the Chief Economist to model future financial/economic scenarios for the company as well as benchmarking Enterprise’s historical performance against its peers. As Treasury Dealer (‘96 – ‘98) maintained Enterprise's day to day cash liquidity. Used instruments such as asset-backed securities, commercial paper and overnight/term deposits to achieve this. Executed currency deals as required.
