On the 'performance' arm of the club, I am the head futsal coach of the first team (National Futsal League). I am constantly learning from an incredible team of people three years into our journey. We are working to create elite-level off-court support for those on-court in what is still an amateur sport in the UK. It is an environment in which I am constantly learning from and being inspired by many of the players and club members. It is a credit to the club that we have such a diverse range of players from a huge array of different backgrounds.

Very rewarding company to work for: I initially planned to work here for 12 months but ended up doing nearly six years before contracting. I provided the technical lead on Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence projects. Work was primarily in Business Objects technologies, using ETL and data cleansing tools such as Data Integrator and Data Quality. Universe design and XI administration was also required. Projects included Business Objects migrations, installations, business analysis and troubleshooting. Project and team management was required and I favoured keeping the customer happy, common sense and the Agile approach as opposed to hiding behind paperwork and middle management.

Involved the design and implementation of software to support the management of retail data for large third-party clients. Included the development and implementation of systems to reduce retail shrinkage through cashier fraud and error via the analysis of EPOS data.

Responsibility for the 24/7 operation of the DB2 and Sybase databases underlying the jungle.com website in both Solaris and NT environments. Projects included ETL for online stock catalogues sourced from multiple suppliers, bespoke search engine, migration project from Sybase to DB2. I moved into the DBA side of things after initially joining as a perl developer.
