Having started my career in the UK learning surveying from the ground up, I emigrated to New Zealand in 2004 after spending an extended year travelling the world and discovering new places. New Zealand and Fletcher Construction offered me the opportunity to widen my expertise in civil engineering surveying and work on a number of great projects in Auckland and since the Kapiti Coast.In Auckland I enjoyed a number of exciting projects that used a range of survey skills for setting out structures and roads and required plenty of thinking outside the square to be able to get the job done.Structural surveying has always been a favorite and a move to the Kapiti Coast saw me responsible for the measurement and setting out of 3m diameter plunged piles and the heaviest precast bridge pier crossheads in the country.Technology is progressing at an amazing rate and I have gained a wealth of experience with the utilising of machine control for both bulk earthworks and pavements. Drone technology has changed the way we capture large amounts of data to assist with the measurement of earthworks quantities and the introduction of scanning at a survey level makes the data that it is possible to produce even more powerful.
