If writing is my first love then cooking has been the honeymoon. And now that the honeymoon is over, I find myself yearning maybe even regretting having neglected writing for so many years. If you would of asked me twenty years ago if I wanted to get into copywriting. I would of said "no way." I was a fiction writer and was bound and determined to make something of myself. It was why I got into cooking in the first place, to pay the bills because my stories sure as hell weren't. And as life carried on, I started a family, bought a house and fell into a predictable groove which has been the mainstay of my life for more than two decades.But now after years of stress, injuries, insanity and sacrifice I have decided: Enough is Enough. Recently after studying some basic principles of copywriting, I discovered it isn't much different from writing stories. In order to sell something to someone you have to do your homework and know who your audience is. Much like in writing fiction you need to know your characters and show not tell. Your audience is much the same way. You need to show that you understand them not tell them. In the age of the internet you have pretty much just a few seconds before someway clicks away.Recently, I published an article on an arts and leisure website, promoting a new restaurant. It was the first published piece I have had since the early 2000's. And I want more. And with it a career with more opportunity and growth potential. A career were there isn't ten different ways to hurt yourself at any given momment. A chance to focus more on the quality of life, of spending more time with family and of good health and well being.Thank you for reading this.
