I’m a Technology leader with over 25 years of experience and a track record of aligning business outcomes with innovative solutions, architecting robust information systems, and managing complex technology portfolios. I have a solid background in consulting with customer clients and delivering solutions for unique needs. As an Enterprise Architect (EA), I have:- aligned desired business outcomes to technology-based solutions, so business leaders can achieve their desired technology-enabled capabilities while minimizing risk, cycle time and costs - architecting success through business and technology alignment- provided governance and management of complex technology and business application portfolios by creating processes and repositories fit for the organization, so that the organization achieves an optimal balance between risk, cycle time and IT costs- enableds IT delivery organizations to meet their commitments to the business by rolling up my sleeves and leading architects solving complex technical and organizational issues so that critical projects can be delivered on time with high qualityFour example accomplishments demonstrating my unique breadth:► TECHNOLOGY AND APPLICATION PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT: I introduced to Walgreens a formal way to document technology and application portfolios, as well as managing the technology standards, use cases, and repository consmmption. I applied a set of numerous application attributes for wholistically managing and rationalizing the business application portfolio.► TECHNOLOGY AND APPLICATION LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT. Proposed to CTO and executed on a company-first initiative, merging data from ServiceNow CMDB and IT operations vendor to enable enterprise-wide technology mapping to business applications and lifecycle-based application and technology health reporting.► SOLUTION ARCHITECTURE: Primary solution architect to design a $600M proposal of nationwide 2-way radio system, data centers and dispatch centers for North African customer. Scope included mobility, integration platform, data center, networking, security management and ITSM services management.► CUSTOMER CONSULTING: Led workshop with UN World Food Program in Dubai, eliciting needs and creating roadmap of solutions, for customer to migrate from analog two-way radios to smartphone platforms. Secured UN contract for digital radio system in Pakistan, which led to global contract with UN for digital radio systems.I’m currently open to discussing new permanent or contract opportunities in EA.Contact me at mark.gannon.cdsr02@gmail.com

Enterprise ArchitectMars Feb 2024 - PresentMclean, Virginia, Us -
Principal Enterprise ArchitectWalgreens May 2022 - May 2023Deerfield, Il, UsThe responsibilities of this role are continuations and enhancements of the previous role:Management of the technology portfolio for all of Walgreens. This included keeping current on lifecycle status, technology description, usage rationale, etc. The data being maintained was moved into the ServiceNow (Tokyo) TRM module, plus a custom Lit-based application for a more compelling user experience and using Git pull requests to track new proposals. Most recently been able to merge the ServiceNow cmdb data with that provided by the TCS managed services to affect a mapping of software to business apps to provide recommendations such as software upgrades for critical applications. This has never been achieved previously at Walgreens.I continued to maintain the business application portfolio and roadmaps for all the Walgreens back-office applications. In addition, I created a repository for all the Walgreens business applications (>500), where I defined and facilitated the gathering of data on application attributes which enable a more comprehensive management of the entire Walgreens business applications portfolio, leveraging the work done for Business Services. This was used for planning, cost reduction, consolidation analysis, tech debt remediation, communication of the application landscape, etc. An example was to determine if plans were in place for TIME Eliminate and Migrate applications, and if not, document dependencies for generation and achieving those plansIdentifying critical technologies needed for major solutions and driving enablement of these technologies. Two examples were the use of Snowflake and of PowerBI Import mode, neither of which had an approved pattern for Finance data, which is subject to SOX regulations. Challenges overcome were both in developing the architectural enablers (e.g. SSO, RBAC, usage logging, data egress controls, etc.), as well as buy-in from IT teams such as Infosec, Identity, Privacy, Cloud COE, and SOX compliance. -
Enterprise ArchitectWalgreens Jun 2019 - May 2022Deerfield, Il, UsSupported the IT group managing the Walgreens back-office applications (Business Services Platform - BSP). I maintained the BSP application portfolio. This included collaboratively creating the application roadmaps, as well as defining and gathering data on new (to Walgreens) application attributes which enable a more comprehensive management of the application portfolio - TIME quadrant, business criticality, cost of operation, business capability model alignment, etc. These were leveraged for proposals on application rationalization, cost reduction and archival needed to retire HR and Finance applications.Worked with business to understand desired new capabilities and participated in the end-to-end RFP to implementation process of solutions for Contract Lifecycle Management, Corporate wide communications, Process Mining.I collaborated with the IT Data and Analytics team to create a reference architecture for Business Services Analytics. I guided Accenture on various projects to create insights from Finance data, HR and payroll data, and Pharmacy fulfillment data. I spearheaded a unified architecture effort, to unify the above and the separate process mining solution. Identified where a small approval council could remove workload from ARB and speed up decisions with a more focused approach. Formed two such Councils – one supporting the Finance business, and one for Microsoft O365 technologies.Member of ARB. Worked with BSP to shepherd 24 proposals through governance (ARB) and to do all the pre-work and cross group collaboration necessary for smooth proposal approvals. Worked with BSP on a 3-in-the-box approach (PMO, Security, EA) to streamline governance.I continued to manage the Technology Portfolio, including a proposal approved by the CTO to revalidate the technology standards, and to leverage the beginning investment in ServiceNow to understand our out of support technologies, and ultimately to map that to the business applications. -
Solutions ArchitectWalgreens Dec 2016 - Jun 2019Deerfield, Il, UsTechnology Solution Architect in Walgreens corporate IT.Responsible for creating a repository of all technology standards and Information Systems architectures in use at Walgreen, creating and managing change processes in these areas. This included shepherding all the technologies through governance. It also included introducing a roadmap methodology to Walgreens which had not been done before. Responsible for driving the development and documentation of select new solutions, by leading multi-team projects in the areas of cloud migration, store technology upgrades, and targeted IT solutions. Responsibility includes technical architecture definition, organizational and operational impact, and financial analysis.Responsible for providing an architectural viewpoint for all proposed projects as part of the annual IT budgeting process. As part of the creation of the first Walgreens Application Portfolio Management (APM) practice, developed roadmaps for roughly 1/3 of the Walgreens applications (a first).Responsible for driving the development and documentation of select new solutions, by leading multi-team projects in the areas of cloud migration, store technology upgrades, and targeted IT solutions. Responsibility includes technical architecture definition, organizational and operational impact, and financial analysis. One example in this area is leveraging my telecom background and analyzing various options for replacing the T1 connections to the stores with broadband. The major considerations were cost and uptime; I showed that redundant connections were required for any T1 replacement to meet store operational requirements.Responsible for documenting roadmap execution dependencies. One such was for the removal of the AS400 computers in the stores – documenting all the AS400 applications, which would be replaced (and when) by various transformation programs, and which required special projects for a replacement application. -
