It was originally set up in 2014 on an administrative basis within DPER. In 2015, the Government approved the establishment of the NSSO on a statutory basis and the legislation was commenced on 1st of January 2018, when the NSSO became a separate civil service office.The National Shared Services Office (NSSO) is leading on Shared Services strategy and the implementation of Shared Services, under the aegis of the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER). The NSSO is directly responsible for delivering business Shared Services within the civil service and, as part of its wider leadership role, it also provides expert guidance and support to other public service sectors in progressing their Shared Services commitments.The NSSO has 770 staff in six civil service offices around the country, in Dublin, Galway, Tullamore and Killarney. It is one of the fasting growing offices in the civil service, with an additional 200 staff to be recruited over the next two to three years.The NSSO provides services to more than 124,500 public servants from 52 wide-ranging public service organisations all over Ireland. The NSSO consists of two operational Shared Services centres:HR Shared Services, which began providing Shared Services to the Civil Service on a phased basis in March 2013 and went fully operational at the end of 2016, and;Payroll Shared Services, which began transacting in December 2013, taking in payrolls and related services from departments and offices in groups at a time. It went fully operational at the end of 2017.One project is underway:Financial Management Shared Services project. Finance Shared Services will begin operating in mid-2018. Show less
