While at University I worked part time with a chartered accounting firm and once I completed my degree I started as a tax accountant. While working in 2009, I completed my CA and then moved to the UK working as a Project Accountant on the Kings Cross Station Redevelopment project - the UK's largest railway station. Once the project was complete I moved on to a Management Accounting role for the real estate arm of the large French bank- BNP Paribas. I returned to Australia and began working at Ballarat Health Services in a Management Accountant / Business Manager role. This role sparked my passion for making a real difference through my work by influencing the numbers rather than just reporting on them. To further my career, I moved Melbourne and began at Peter MacCallum as a Business Analyst. I moved into a Financial Performance Manager role responsible for the overall budgeting process of the organisation with 9 indirect reports. Responsibilities included internal reporting and process improvements- being involved in solving problems and processing issues around the organisation. This role allowed me to continually ask 'why?', helping me to understand the reasons for the current situation while working closely with operations staff. This type of role is what I am passionate about and suits my skill set. Following a recent restructure my role has changed slightly, with more responsibility and accountability. I now have 4 direct reports and am focussed on the Health Service side of the organisation. This ties in nicely with my career goal of becoming a CFO in the future.
