Mark Grove's publications include: 'The Development of Japanese Amphibious Warfare, 1874-1942' in Geoffrey Till, Theo Farrell and Mark J. Grove, Amphibious Operations, (Camberley: SCSI, 1997), a concise history of World War Two at Sea (Botley, Oxford: Osprey, 2002) with Philip D. Grove and Alastair Finlan. He has co-edited The Falklands Conflict Twenty Years On: Lessons for the Future, (London: Frank Cass, 2004) and contributed a chapter on Japanese Amphibious Warfare during the period 1918 to 1942 for Amphibious Assault: Manoeuvre from the Sea (Woodbridge: Seafarer, 2007). Conference papers have included examinations of the Royal Navy’s preparations for the Battle of the Atlantic, the growing sea control challenges of the ‘operational littoral’, hybrid warfare challenges in the South China Sea, and Russian Naval Strategy in the Black and Mediterranean Seas. He has provided briefings to NATO MARCOM, UKSJFHQ, Fleet Command, MWC, & the Cabinet Office. He has published a number of articles in Warships IFR, including an analysis of the training challenges facing the rapidly expanding Chinese Navy, is a regular contributor to the Warships IFR podcast, the ‘Warships Pod’ and in 2023 became a frequent commentator on Newsweek. He has also made a number of television and radio appearances for both U.K and overseas broadcasters, most recently for BBC News/BBC World News on the maritime aspects of the Russo-Ukrainian War.
