Clinical Nurse Educator

Global

I am a traveling Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) which specializes in training doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists on the operation, use and clinical application of various mechanical ventilators. As a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) holding licenses for RCP, RRT, CRT and certifications that include ACLS, NALS and PALS it is an honor to educate medical professionals in new technologies and how they can enhance patient pathological modalities, patient comfort and ultimately shorter mechanical ventilation requirements leading to positive patient outcomes and shorter hospital stays. This position requires me to travel to Asia, the Middle East and South America to help train these medical professionals to the highest standards and current guidelines concerning mechanical ventilation, modalities of use and best practices.

Capt. Mark Hamilton, Rrt, Rcp

Greater San Diego Area

I am a Respiratory Care Practitioner, which focuses on pulmonological aspects of patient care which includes diagnostics, evaluation and treatment plans and options. To accomplish this we use a wide variety of tools to diagnose, treat and maintain life support when a patient is unable to do it themselves. This would include mechanical ventilation, blood gas analysis is a front line test to determine what is really happening physiologically in the patients blood, how much oxygen is getting to their cells, and how much carbon dioxide they are getting rid of, do they have enough hemoglobin to provide adequate oxygenation. Other tools that help in determining a patient’s respiratory status are spirometry, which determines the volumes of a patients lungs and how they perform.’ Using x-rays films and CT (computer Tomography) and MRI's are invaluable in determining if a patient has physiological issues that are hampering breathing or cardiac issues making it impossible for the lungs to operate properly. Many things can be detected with these visual aids such as bolus, or spontaneous and tension pneumothorax, pleural effusions, pulmonary embolus, cancer, heart issues and other abnormalities and disease. When a patient can’t breath on their own we put them on a ventilator in which we have complete control of respiration of a patient . This device has saved thousands of lives and its technology and patient monitoring advance each year. It enables us to deal with the underlying condition(s) of patients, while keeping the patient alive in the mean time, thus enabling the medical team of doctors, nurses, technicians and all of the other vital professionals to help heal and save patients. To put it simply, I make sure you keep breathing, that you have enough oxygen, that you can get rid of carbon dioxide, and that your heart can circulate it.

Captain

I acted as Captain Post Hurricane Katrina to transport and deliver equipment and personnel to drilling rigs and pump stations throughout the Gulf of Mexico. The vessel I commanded along with the other talented Captains was a one hundred and fifty foot supply vessel. It was capable of carrying 68,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 38,000 gallons of water, along with tons of pipe, equipment and off-shore crew relief to be supplied to the off-shore drilling rigs and platforms. After Hurricane Katrina a tremendous amount of damage was done to the extensive infrastructure of drilling rigs and pump stations located off-shore. It was a great experience working with oil and gas professionals who repaired and rebuilt oil platforms, and replaced miles of underwater pipelines without spilling any oil into the environment. These Captains, crew, riggers, welders, mechanics, crane operators, engineers, pipe fitters and all the other personnel required to man such vast operations are the best in the field and it was an honor to work with them.

Hurricane Katrina

Dept. Of Homeland Security / Uscg.A / Fema Operations

Upon deployment to the Gulf Coast for disaster recovery operations I participated in different phases of disaster relief. I was first tasked to open several DOC's (Disaster Operation Centers) throughout Louisiana, which included Covington and other locations. This entailed site evaluation, equipment setup and layout, communications setup and installation evaluation, facility evaluation and supply acquisition, and Military Ready to Eat Meal (MRE) and water distribution. Main operations and supply were located in Baton Rouge and relief operation took us as far as 250 miles away in some cases. My team was then ordered to search out and check specified map references and check each house to verify that no one had been missed or left undiscovered that needed food, water or medical treatment. The final assignment was to act as chief IT engineer for an assigned Mobile Disaster Recovery Communications (MDRC) satellite link communications unit. This RV like unit was fitted with ten computer work stations that would be linked to the DHS communications satellite and enabled us to provide 20 additional external laptop stations and thirty phone lines via an umbilical cable to a building or temporary structure. This provided the ability to setup a EOC (Emergency Operations Center) virtually anywhere.
