About Mark Harrell
I am a seasoned management professional serving as a technical advisor for overall maintenance, repair and/or replacement of manufacturing equipment and facilities. My ability to look over the horizon to anticipate obstacles typically has me a step ahead in terms of streamlining and optimizing operations in order to resolve issues and concerns. Communication in all business is the key to success and interfacing with colleagues day-to-day is crucial while critiquing processes for improvement. I have diverse experience in driving strategic solutions, manufacturing management, quality assurance, and maintenance functions of complex business enterprises. I embrace opportunities with a bias toward action. Continually identifying opportunities to reduce costs, realize extensive savings for organizations, while eagerly rolling up my sleeves to help make things happen. As a newly commissioned Ensign in the Navy, I walked aboard ship outranking every enlisted man onboard. That does not mean I knew what I was doing, nor how to do it, but I was in charge, responsible and accountable. I had to learn to trust, listen and adapt myself to the people who worked with me – I needed to learn the job from them. I benefited greatly from those senior enlisted men, learning what they looked for in leaders, how to handle people, even how to speak effectively to subordinates. I still remember the advice from a Master Chief just after I was commissioned, “Take care of your people and they will take care of you.” That was better advice than any I received in college.Working with people, listening to their concerns, ideas and goals has allowed me to find ways to improve processes, increase throughput, improve reliability, and safety. I’ve always focused on the safety of my people, to send them home healthy and whole. I wanted those same folks back the next day to continue our work and progress together. The old Master Chief was right, taking care of your people, showing them the need for what they are doing, finding better ways to do their jobs and working together brings better rewards for everyone!
