Leading and managing a team of 25 operating and maintaining the Wellington Metro Traction System.Launching of the Wellington Metro Traction Upgrade Project – an $80M over 8 years upgrade centred on replacement of 2,500 aged wooden traction poles.Successfully transitioned the workforce from day shifts to flexible working hours. Introduced contemporary and novel technology to greatly improve reliability and lower cost (HD pantograph camears with GPS location, HD long-range thermal imaging camera with GPS, full loop tests of the network and in-service remote testing of rectifiers captured HV waveforms. Saving months of work and better targeting upgrade work.Design, procurement and implementation of temporary tunnel lighting for Tunnel 2 on the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT). This involved 4.4km of temporary lighting to support work within the tunnel (re-railing, signals and traction). Significant cost and installation economies were obtained through the novel use of constant power wide-voltage electronic ballasts and pre-wired lighting strings.

- Strategic planning for the Ministry of Justice’s use of technology through being a contributing author to the Information Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP) and Enterprise Architecture documents. - Technical lead and solutions architect for judicial video conferencing and courtroom technology. This research, involved development of detailed requirements standards, sourcing activities, acceptance testing, guidance, and hand over relating to both a pilot and full implementation of judicial video conferencing capability.- Solutions architect for converging printing, faxing, scanning and copying into a single secure and centrally managed service. Solution designed to reduce cost and greatly improve customer satisfaction. Included secure walk up printing, service level based support/management and centralised monitoring.- Solutions architect for remote transcription solution to allow small/special jurisdictions to utilise private service providers to undertake transcription remotely in a timely and secure manner.- Creation of Ministry purchasing standards for technology items such as desktop computers, laptops, dictation machines, scanners, printers etc.

One of two Enterprise Architects at Meridian Energy. My role was to provide strategic planning for Meridian Energy Ltd generation control systems (GCS) for its existing hydro stations and for major developments both in New Zealand and in Australia. The role also took in strategic planning for telecommunications and information security at Meridian. Key outcomes were the delivery of:- Meridian’s Industrial Solutions Strategy (the future direction for control and automation).- The Remote Access Strategy (achieving secure and usable remote access).- Co-authoring of Meridian’s Information Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP).- Co-authoring of the Meridian IS Architectural Plan.- Undertaking an ITIL based review of Meridian’s generation control system (GCS) and its support.

Started at a trainee radio technician working on radio and TV transmitters (last of the valve era!), radio receivers, antennas and studios. Was a great introduction to long-stringy-networks and multidisciplinary engineering. Designed power systems and deployment of TV and FM transmitters.
