After graduating with a Masters’ Degree in Computer Science from Loughborough University in the UK, I traveled to Canada for 6 months to pursue my enjoyment of snowboarding. Well, things change. That short 6 months turned into 7 years and Canadian permanent residency. While in Canada I took on the hospitality industry. Working from the bottom to the top I quickly found myself managing a successful restaurant. And with great power came great responsibility. Not only mastering the client-side interaction of hospitality, I also engaged in people management, scheduling, stock control and day-to-day problem solving.I also advanced my computing skills amidst my exploits behind the bar and in the kitchen. Developing an automated reporting system I reduced office labour costs by $11,500 per month across the chain. I also developed a web-based gift certificate management system to track the sale and redemption of over 120,000 items. In addition, a responsive website was built using the Drupal framework although never implemented due to changes in the company. Now having completed the General Assembly Web Development Immersive program, I've dived back into the world of IT.
