Profile bio

About Mark Harrison

With extensive experience in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), I have developed and spearheaded innovative, tailored, and highly effective measures to promote fairness and inclusion. Below is a small selection of my accomplishments and associated skills: • At The Children’s Society, I developed the organisation’s first inclusion and diversity strategy – ‘Pulling Out All the Stops’. At Metropolitan, I delivered a three-year plan of action (‘All Together Different’) that was recognised as best practice by The Chartered Institute of Housing. I also developed and delivered a four-year E&D Strategy at SOAS adopted by its Board of Trustees in May 2015.• As Head of Inclusion for the University of London, I collaborated with senior colleagues to develop a tailored Diversity and Inclusion Strategy with a SMART action plan to address the gaps in performance across all areas of the Higher Education Institution’s operation. Aligned with the HEI’s wider ‘One University’ business plan, this strategy has been adopted by the University as well as the new formal Diversity Committee.• My ability to inspire change and harness enthusiasm for the good of institutions is evidenced by the work I completed at Metropolitan where my strategy and three-year plan of action encompassed its range of housing and social care functions, communications and marketing activities, and procurement policy. As a result of my work, the organisation came to be regarded a the sector lead on diversity and inclusion, occupying 5th place on Stonewall’s highly competitive Workplace Equality Index in 2012 – an improvement from 85 in 2006. For the first time, the organisation was named by The Times as one of the “Top 50 employers for Women”.• I have effective leadership skills and a proven ability to influence stakeholders and organisations, honed over years of senior management experience. At Metropolitan, The Children’s Society, SOAS, and UoL, I worked directly with the CEO/VC to successfully secure high-level buy-in of my strategic approach. I also leveraged my influencing skills to secure the participation of more than 25 diversity ambassadors. With a view to maximising inclusive practices at a leading Higher Education Institution, I created and managed a Race Equality Group, expanding it to 100 members• At UoL, my collaboration with the L&D team led to the establishment of a comprehensive training programme aligned with current best practice. This included Unconscious Bias and Active Bystander training to foster dignity and respect in the workplace.

Listed skills include Equality And Diversity, Public Sector, Social Housing, Policy, and 45 others.
