He currently assists in directing Bronson Community Schools and is principal of Ryan Elementary. Bronson Commmunity Schools has the best overall academic rankings in the tri-county area of southern Michigan. Ryan Elementary is ranked the best elementary school in Branch County according to the Mackinac Center in the state of Michigan. (CAP report 2013)Mark enjoys leading and directing educational support personnel to educate all children. He has presented nationally at the Northwest Evaluationa Association conference on using Measures of Academic Progress to promote efficiency in education. He is the chairman of the Bronson Area Youth Program in Bronson, Michigan. The program operates the Bronson Area Youth Center. The youth center is operated year round providing out of school activities for many children. His wife Rhonda operates Little Fox Day Care and Pre-school. Mark and Rhonda have nurtured many children as they have worked professionally with children for many years. In their home they have fostered over forty children and have adopted eight children. He currently teaches Foster Parents for LaGrange and Steuben Counties in Indiana.

Mr. Heifner was principal of Chicago Street School from 2002 to 2006. He was principal of Ryan Elementary from 2006-2008. Then in August of 2008 the school board could not hire another principal for the district due to budget constraints so he became principal of both schools. He has just completed being a principal of both schools for the past five years. He is proud of the academic progress the school and district has made over the years. Bronson Community Schools is one of the most cost effective schools in the state of Michigan. Mr. Heifner continues to lead Ryan Elementary as the principal and assists the district with curriculum development, data driven decision making, and educational leadership.
