Senior Heritage Consultant
Senior Publications Officer
Senior Heritage Consultant / Fieldwork Project Manager
My primary role focused on management of historic environment and archaeological desk-based assessments, settings assessments, environmental impact assessments as part of the Environmental Statement process, heritage reviews, Scheduled Monument Consent applications, bespoke tender documentation and management of programmes of archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation. This necessitated consultation with statutory and non-statutory heritage advisors, other stakeholders and colleagues across the historic environment sector and with associates and clients across a range of environmental disciplines. I provided this service on a wide range of projects comprising large residential sites, commercial and industrial sites, renewable energy and waste sites and infrastructure improvements such as new carriageway construction, upgrades and rail projects, including significant input to the HS2.
Senior Archaeologist
Preparation of historic environment desk-based assessments, environmental impact assessments, heritage reviews, Scheduled Monument Consent applications, bespoke tender documentation and management of programmes of archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation. Consultation with statutory and non-statutory heritage officials and colleagues across the environmental disciplines within WSP and outside the company.
Call-Off Contractor
Provision of heritage consultancy advice and assessment on a call-off basis.
Heritage Consultant & Archaeologist
Provision of bespoke cultural heritage advice and assessment on a freelance basis for clients comprising local authorities and private developers, archaeological contractors, cultural heritage consultancies and academic institutions. I also worked with a network of other like-minded culture business consultants to bring heritage-focused workshops and themed classes into our schools.Amongst my most recent project work I provided impact assessment advice when contracted to Cotswold Archaeology between September 2012 and October 2013, in order to prepare elements of the cultural heritage assessment for HS2 Phase 1 ES.
Course Instructor
Course designer and lecturer. Undergraduate teaching - Early Civilisations: Introduction to Ancient Western Asia - History and Archaeology. I fulfilled this particular role in tandem with my freelance heritage provision. The role gave me a great opportunity to draw on my expertise in Ancient Western Asian ancient history and archaeology and my six years experience of excavation in Syria.
Senior Heritage Consultant
My primary role required the research and preparation of environmental impact assessments and archaeological desk-based assessments, heritage reviews, Scheduled Monument Consent applications, bespoke tender documentation and management of programmes of archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation. My project experience at Atkins comprised input for large residential sites, schools, commercial and industrial sites, renewable energy and waste sites and infrastructure improvements such as new carriageway construction and upgrades. Additionally I visited schools to provide classroom heritage workshops and presentations for children and parents, and presented occasional lectures for community groups and societies. A significant element of my time was spent in liaison with colleagues and clients from different disciplines and professions; national and regional heritage agencies and individuals undertaking a wide variety of projects both heritage-focused and otherwise.
Fieldwork Project Manager
Between 2000 and 2006 I managed large and small commercial and training excavations across the UK. This required the preparation of tender documents, devising of archaeological fieldwork and post-excavation programmes, management of project budgets, consultation with clients, funding bodies and university management and the efficient delivery of project outputs; chiefly focused on the mitigation of heritage orientated conditions of our clients’ planning applications. I also taught Practical and Middle Eastern Archaeology modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. This comprised the preparation of course material, administration staff and student liaison, commentary and assessment.
