Scientific Skills:Design, development, manufacture and evaluation of novel aqueous pigment dispersions for ink jet printing applications. Expertise in aqueous ink jet ink formulation and ink fixing agent technology.Good understanding of paper chemistry and media design.Experience in the field of dye chemistry (water and solvent soluble (disperse) dyes), for use in ink jet inks and LCD colour filters.In-depth analysis and visualisation of complex data sets to identify trends and spot new leads – involving the use of Excel, JMP, Spotfire and Vortex.Expert in the use, repair and maintenance of bead milling equipment, especially Netzsch re-circulating mills.Customer Focus:Very close liaison with key customers to deliver a number of technical programmes – in USA, Japan, & Europe.Worked closely with a major customer, and their end users to design, develop and deliver a novel ink for high speed mail printing on a range of difficult to print substrates.Key involvement in an EU funded project on ink jet printing involving complex, multi-disciplinary technical collaborations between 5 European companies and a university.Management:Many years’ experience in the technical management of projects – technical project design, work planning, interpretation of data, reduction to knowledge, and application of this to achieve iterative improvements. Also included planning and management of the above to meet tightly defined deadlines and milestones.Line management of teams of up to 4 experimental chemists to deliver technical targets.Routine close liaison with many other key technical functions – e.g. process technology, SHE, product registration and intellectual property groups.
