Citizens Advice Doncaster is an independent charity and a member of the Citizens Advice network. I’m proud to support them in their mission to provide free advice and support to meet the needs of the community who live, work or study in the Doncaster Borough.

The Carlton Forest Group had two main areas of operation. One was a 3PL business and the second was a renewables business which owned the UK’s only continuous end of life tyre pyrolysis plant, taking end of life tyres and converting them into oil and carbon char products. My role reported into the private owners and the main achievements included:• Leading a group refinancing exercise.• Sourcing financing for future projects and plant rollouts.• Long term strategic planning, advising and supporting the owners on value creation.• Identifying and engaging with potential investors.• Improving cash flow forecasting and developing long term financial models.• Preparation of business plans for new technologies.• Successful commercial negotiations with problem customers and suppliers.• Introducing a broker selection process for group insurance.• Providing oversight and input into R&D claims and grant funding.

The CMS Group was a leading supplier of uPvC windows and façade design and build in Scotland. CMS serviced local authorities, housing associations, main construction contractors and trade customers. The business was part of Maven Partners portfolio and the role served on the main board. Key achievements included:• Key member of the team securing additional investment from Maven Partners.• Identifying and reporting to the board issues with applications to main contractors.• General Management of the business following the departure of the Managing Director.• Management of investor and banking relationships, and debt covenants.• Improvements in cash flow forecasting and cash management.• Leading a business sale process in conjunction with external advisors.

SchlegelGiesse was a global supplier of components to the fenestration industry and part of Tyman plc, a UK listed business. Based in Bologna, the role had full finance and IT responsibility, with a team of 60 people in 19 locations. The role reported to the CEO, partnering on strategy, business performance and M&A. Key achievements included:• Successful acquisition of a business.• Designing strategic plan with the CEO, driving business growth.• Business transformation, closing 1 business and converting 2 others from make to buy, reducing cost base by £0.5m with no detrimental impact on revenue.• Transforming finance team culture from passive to pro-active.• Achieving inventory reductions of 25% through use of historical and forecasted data.• Leading the Brazilian business, including setting strategy for contract renegotiation with the business’s largest client, resulting in a 7% addition to the RoS percentage.• Achieving a Tyman plc first of zero outstanding internal audit points.• Reporting and analysis improvements, including redesigning board reporting packs, identifying performance drivers such as mix and price variance and introduction/standardisation of KPI’s.• Leading a SAP rollout program and enhancing cyber security protection.• Harmonising policies and procedures.• Introducing a risk register and leading business risk reviews.• Commercial contract review and approval.• External relationship management, including banks and other professional advisors.• Overhauling standard cost methodologies and introduction of a transfer pricing policy.

Total Safety supplied safety services and equipment, primarily to the Oil & Gas industry via an equipment rental and associated maintenance/support services model. Total Safety were owned by US private equity house Warburg Pincus, The role had full finance and IT responsibility, with 6 direct reports across 7 locations. I reported to the group CFO and the Vice President MEA, who I supported in business operations management. Key achievements included the following:• Turned the region self-funding, from a significant cash outflow in 12 months.• Design and implementation of strategy with the regional VP, driving business growth.• Identified and corrected historical process and control weaknesses around rental assets.• Introduction of trend tools for key data, enhancing management review of results.• Improved forecasting accuracy to consistently be within +/- 10%.• HR management in region for 12 months.

SPX was a US listed corporation providing engineered products, technologies and services to a number of sectors including food and beverage (F&B). During my tenure I held roles of increasing responsibility and complexity through a series of promotions. The roles covered up to 11 businesses, with a team of up to 49 people, with 15 direct reports. Reporting to the General Manager and CFO, I was based in Copenhagen from May 2012 and key achievements included the following:• Transformed finance team performance and culture in two Danish businesses. • Team development, which enabled team members to grow into more senior roles.• Identified root causes of underperforming projects, enabling $50m of zero margin activity to be replaced by profitable 20% margin work.• Supporting lean manufacturing activity in new acquisitions and driving lean processes in the finance function, saving 22 hours per week.• Migrated activity from multiple businesses into a European Shared Service Centre.• Integrated 2 acquisitions ensuring they reported to SPX timetable and standards.

Cascal was a provider of Water and Wastewater services around the world, including the UK, Asia & South America. Responsible for all aspects of Financial Reporting this role included playing a key part in taking the company through an IPO on the NYSE and managing all subsequent reporting requirements. Additionally the role included responsibility for investment analysis on new Water and Wastewater concessions.
