- Comprehensive experience with histology including processing and embedding of tissue, sectioning (both microtome and cyrostat), immunohistochemistry (fluorescent and colourmetric) and in situ hybridisation (with both DIG and radioactive labeled probes). This included the setting up and optimisation of these techniques in both Pittsburgh, QMUL and KCL labs.- Experience with imaging techiques, including brightfield, darkfield, fluorescent and confocal microscopy, including downstream analysis using stereology and statistical sampling for cell counting.- Analysis of gene expression including qPCR and a number of microarray analyses. This included the subsequent processing of array data, which was undertaken using R and Bioconductor, and downstream analysis with D.A.V.I.D and Ensembl.- Animal work included the management of colonies, phenotype analysis as well as euthanasia and dissection of a number of tissues (embryos, placentas, soleus muscle, pituitary, liver, kidneys, adrenals, brown adipose tissue, white adipose tissue and brain). This included the maintenance of a home office license (modules 1 to 4) (UK) and the applying for and gaining IACUC approval (USA).- Cell culture work including cloning and transfection of overexpression constructs and downstream analysis. This also includes primary cell culture of renal proximal tubule epithelial cells, application of hypoxic stress and immunological response analysis.
