• Developed and implemented a 3-month intensive, community-based, technical training program to prepare incoming volunteers for the cultural and technical rigors of the Peace Corps - Dominican Republic Water Program. • Responsibilities included budget developement/management, technical lesson plan design, management of simultaneous projects, evaluation of each trainee, and revisions of training model.

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

• Spearheaded development of sustainable hydraulic ram pump technology and new composting bathroom from prototype design through grant solicitation.• Fabrication, testing, manufacturing, and dissemination of developed technologies.• Consulting for various volunteers and communities on water and sanitation projects through site and project investigation and feasibility studies for the placement of Peace Corps volunteers for their 2-year services.

Altamira, Dominican Republic

• Worked at a grassroots level to complete a community diagnostic and feasibility study, educate the community on water and sanitation, organize and train a water committee on operation and maintenance of a water system, and construct a gravity-flow water system and sanitary latrines. • Organized and executed a regional water committee oversight association to develop a sustainable entity to provide assistance to and self-sustain existing water committees in the geographic area.

Holland, Mi

• Traveled to Cameroon, Africa on three occasions to develop, assess and iterate a water purification system in a rural village by evaluating the efficiency of household bio-sand filters and to begin implementation of an improved community water supply system. • Showcased efficiency findings at a local undergraduate research symposium.• Led development of health education training curriculum to solidify sanitation promotion to improve water handling and safety practices.• Project led to 10% growth in child population under the age of five in two years.

• Synthesized a number of silicon-based compounds and evaluated their potential use in lithium ion batteries. • Developed process for purification of silicon-modified ionic liquids to further evaluate electrochemical potential for compounds’ use in battery applications. • Presented research to colleagues and department managers to determine feasibility and future funding.
