In 2012, I was selected to become Principal of Henry Ford High School in Detroit, MI, a high school known for rampant violence, and bordering on closure. In my first year, we increased attendance and the graduation rate by 30 percent, increased ACT and MEAP scores, and reinvented the school culture. By year two, we had transformed the school into a successful institution of higher learning, developing partnerships with General Motors, United Way, Wayne State University, and others to implement Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), college preparation, and other instructional programs to support the school. A very gratifying experience. During my tenure, I completed Global Education and 21st Century School Leadership courses at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, and administrative certification courses through the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals.
