Summary of Duties:1. Oversee the Food Security and Livelihood projects and activities from planning to implementation stages 2. Support and facilitate smallholder farmers in participating in respective agricultural value chain processes, from production to marketing through an integrated process approach3. Coordination of the formation and management of farmer related groupings – Farmer Clubs, Study Circle groups, Village Savings and Loan (VSLs) Groups, Farmer Association, Agricultural Cooperatives, and District Farmers Unions4. Training of capacity building of farmers and farmer organizations’ leaders in organizational and business development 5. Foster and strengthen linkages between smallholder farmers and agricultural value chain players from the district level 6. Guide farmers in lobbying and advocacy knowledge and skills for agriculture development and food security Main Achievements1. Establishment of smallholder farmer groupings; and engagement structures and systems 2. Development of various agricultural value chains especially in Rice, Sunflower, Groundnuts, Soya Beans, Cassava, Maize, and Cotton 3. Increased participation of farmers in policy forums and agricultural value chain processes4. Formulation of FUM agricultural cooperatives’ development policy and regulations5. Successful management of various projects including Swedish Cooperative Centre (SCC) funded projects in Malawi including: Farmers Fighting Poverty and Injustice (FOFPI); Malawi Lake Basin Programme (MLBP) and Swedish Organization for Individual Relief (SOIR); Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA); International Food and Agriculture Development (IFAD) funded Project, Rural Livelihood and Economic Enhancement Programme (RLEEP); and Oxfam International Project, Market Access for Smallholder Women Farmers in Malawi.

The position entails assisting in all consultancies and training activities by the Consultancy firm to various groups, cooperative societies, organizations and institutions in areas of: Feasibility Studies on establishment of Microfinance and Front Office Services; Market Surveys and Products Development; Organizational/Entrepreneurial Establishment and Evaluation; Institutional Analysis and Structuring; Strategic Planning and Management; Human Resource Management; Savings Mobilization Strategies; Credit Administration and Management; Internal Controls and Risk Management; Operational Policies and Procedures Guidelines Preparation; By-laws Formulations; Training and Policy Guidelines Preparation; Technical Training on related fields; Organizational FundraisingMajor achievementsParticipating in consultancies, research and capacity building assignments for a number of cooperatives in various areas, in Kenya and in other countries. Such cooperatives in Kenya include: National Cooperative Housing Union (NACHU)- Nairobi; 2NK SACCO – Nyeri/Karatina; Mungania Tea Growers’ SACCO-Embu, Lompasago SACCO – Nairobi; Mhasibu SACCO – Nairobi; Baringo Teachers’ SACCO – Eldama Ravine; Sukari SACCO-Mumias; Kenya Police SACCO- Nairobi; Maisha Bora SACCO- Nairobi; Universal SACCO-Machakos; and Taita Taveta Teachers’ SACCO- Wundanyi among others. Other organizations and programmes are: Mbita Fishermen Co-operative Union Limited; - Suba; SAGA Thrift and Enterprises Promotion Limited – Kisumu; and; and Central Kenya Dry Areas IFAD Project. Internationally, I have also been engaged in assignments for: Savings and Credit Union League of Tanzania (SCCULT); Tanzania Federation of Cooperatives (TFC); and, Rural Financial Intermediation Programme (RUFIP) – Federal Co-operative Agency – Ethiopia.
