As an ED Tech, my responsibilities include performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), wound care, vital sign monitoring, and specimen collection. I am also trained in advanced procedures such as phlebotomy, blood glucose testing, saline lock insertion, and IV discontinuation. I assist with patient exams and minor procedures. I also apply orthopedic devices under physician direction. I am, at times, the first point of contact for patients entering the Emergency Department, conducting initial assessments and addressing immediate concerns before they are seen by the triage nurse.
