Served as Acting Manager for the Groundwater Services group, comprised of 10 office staff and numerous field technicians that are responsible for monitoring over 6,000 groundwater bores across Australia. Services include routine monitoring programs, bore depthing as well as groundwater sampling using a range of methodologies such as low-flow, passive, 3-volume and in-situ sampling. Increasingly, our monitoring network uses telemetry, providing near real-time data to our clients, with over 300 of these sites hosted on secure client dedicated websites.

Cox Peninsula Remediation Project, Cox Peninsula Nt

This $24M remediation project involved the remediation and rehabilitation of 4,750 hectares of land, including construction of a 45,000m3 onsite containment cell, excavation and disposal of widespread asbestos contaminated soils, thermal treatment of pesticide contaminated soils, immobilisation of lead contaminated soils, removal of over 12km of underground cables and demolition of all infrastructure including two large buildings. Mark was 2IC to the Project Manager and responsible for the project in his absence. He also was responsible for program and commercial management, negotiating progress claims and variations with the client, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently, and overseeing less experienced engineers.

Ichthys Project Onshore Lng Facilities – Main Civil Works, Bladen Point Nt

Mark was the project engineer for a $3B civil works package including detailed earthworks, piling, concrete foundations & elevated structures, precast concrete installation of U-ditches, culverts & pipe sleepers, underground HDPE & GRE/GRVE pipe installation, electrical & instrumentation cabling, roads & paving. Mark managed the progressive handover of works to the Client, which required coordinated negotiations between all stakeholders in establishing omissions and inclusions, battery limits and timeframes. He served as the Turn Over System Tracking & Reporting (TOSTR) Coordinator, ensuring that the project’s pre-commissioning documentation met the needs of the client. He provided technical support to the Manufacturer Data Record (MDR) team as required, to ensure that MDR compilation was progressing as per the conditions of the contract. He compiled weekly completions reports to communicate the completions status and any issues to senior management.

East Arm Wharf, Darwin Au

This $37M wharf remediation project involved tie rod repairs via shored trench excavation behind the wharf wall. Mark managed the project program and chaired weekly planning meetings to optimize performance and ensure that key milestone dates were achieved. He seconded the Commercial Manager, validating subcontractor claims, cost forecasting and month-end reporting in his absence. He managed all aspects of the project through completion in its final six months.

Goodna Sewage Treatment Plant, Goodna Qld

This $97M award winning multi-disciplinary project involved the construction of a new, independently functioning treatment plant adjacent to the existing plant. Included the construction of large HDPE lined reinforced concrete tanks, installation of mechanical equipment and underground services, road construction and landscaping. Mark was largely focused on development of tender packages, subcontract administration, subcontractor management and workforce supervision.

Hinze Dam Stage 3 Upgrade, Advancetown Qld

$350M Earthworks project involving raising the clay-core rock-fill dam by 15 metres, clearing of the areas to be inundated by the reservoir, construction of a visitor centre and recreation areas. Mark’s undergraduate position included research for a thesis that assessed the factors that contribute to the differences in maximum dry density (MDD) and optimum moisture content (OMC) between clay samples from the stockpiles and clay samples from the embankment. Skills and knowledge improved upon include quality assurance, HSE management and subcontractor supervision.
