Reporting to the Board of Directors as Managing Director I have responsibility for all aspects of company performance. This includes recruitment, development, and training of staff with the associated responsibility for their health and safety and well-being. I am responsible for developing and realising opportunities and implementing the business strategy, which includes forecasting to ensure we have sufficient resources (people, finances, and infrastructure) to effectively undertake and deliver our work programme. I report progress formally upon a monthly basis to a supervisory committee (a subset of the full Board). I also have corporate responsibility for signing the audited accounts and their filing at Companies House.Under our list Nuclear status (List-N) issued by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) I am also the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) with accountability and responsibility for information risks and the reporting of loss of information by Croft to the relevant regulatory authorities.As Technical Director I take ultimate responsibility for the technical performance and leadership of the work undertaken at Croft and for the management and leadership of the technical team which is organised into the functional areas of Engineering and Projects, Licensing and Manufacture. I have direct line management responsibility for the heads of function which includes the related business support function.

Responsible for developing the strategy and engineering programme for the design of a geological disposal facility for UK higher activity wastes.Effective co-ordination of complex multidisciplinary projects and development of design solutions for the disposal of the UK higher activity wastes, compliant with National and International regulations, fulfilling necessary health and safety requirements.Proven track record of working with a range of stakeholders to achieve excellence in development of design solutions that meet regulatory requirements and provide safe and valued engineered solutions to the industry.Strong commercial awareness developed through the financial control of projects involving internal staff and work placed under contract, management of performance against plans to ensure costs remain within budget and key milestones are delivered. Suitably qualified and experienced for both internal and external Project Management, following the principles of PRINCE2, and audit of Quality Management Systems to ISO 9001.Development of contract strategy and preparation of technical specifications, tender negotiation, evaluation and agreement of contractual terms and conditions under NEC3 Professional Services Contract. Annual budget approximately £1.5M and individual project costs from £10k to £500k.Design Authority for the engineering aspects of the geological disposal facility (GDF) design; principally concerning disposal system design, waste package design, mechanical handling systems and waste package emplacement technologies. Principal interface with other RWMD functions and external stakeholders for the GDF design. Responsible for leading and acting as Intelligent Client for development of the GDF design, obtaining safety integrated design solutions through the supply chain that satisfy the requirements of the Disposal System Specification. Provision of mentoring and professional guidance to junior and new engineering staff.

Responsible for the development and assessment of waste packaging and transport packaging designs for UK higher activity wastes. Managed the design development and prototype manufacture of the Standard Waste Transport Container (SWTC) design test specimen, including the fully instrumented Regulatory approval impact and metrology testing programme

Responsible for the technical content and contract management of a range of projects associated with the safe operation and secure transport of radioactive material in accordance with National and International regulations.Project managed the design, testing, manufacture and licensing of containers for safe transport of radioactive material, from Industrial Packages used for disposal of waste at LLWR to re-useable Type A and Type B large shielded high integrity containers.Prepared licensing documentation, Design Safety Reports, manufacturing specifications, operating and maintenance procedures, test validation programmes and procedures.Development of a large, intermediate level waste, disposal container for decommissioning wastes for UK Nirex. This project involved extension of freight container design codes for a 65 tonne package, manufactured in stainless steel. Development of high strength tie-down system for restraint of 65 tonne packages, meeting the acceleration requirements of the IAEA transport regulations.

Responsible for technical leadership of work undertaken to develop a telerobotic decommissioning facility to size reduce and pack 160 redundant alpha contaminated gloveboxes on the UKAEA Harwell site arising from the plutonium research programme.
