About Mark Kicklighter
With over 18 years working in law enforcement, I have learned that every day will bring new challenges. The variety and change are what have kept me focused and engaged. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to complete the corrections academy and the law enforcement crossover academy and hold certifications in both fields. While with the Saint Lucie County Sheriffs Office, I have held many roles, including operations, administration as the security coordinator, and booking and intake. My current and most rewarding role as an operations sergeant allows me to mentor and train young deputies who will eventually become tomorrow's leaders. Having worked in the administration department allowed me various opportunities to learn and broaden my knowledge of the internal operations of the Department of Detention. During this time, I assisted with implementing a new security system upgrade at the Saint Lucie County Jail. The multi-faceted approach included installing newly upgraded security lighting, electronic door controls, a new automated key system for key distribution, and migration of databases to the new system. I also managed our transition from our outdated handheld radios to the latest digital equipment. This radio distribution project entailed developing an electronic database for accountability, programming, and equipment distribution to over two hundred employees. In 2017, I was awarded deputy of the quarter for my dedication and work during this critical transition period.I am working towards my Bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Florida and will graduate in April 2022. By continuing to challenge myself and continue my education, I am preparing myself for any career advancement opportunities that I may choose to pursue now or in the future.
