    My work focused primarily on the design, synthesis, characterization, and further study of shape-persistent oligoamide macrocycle, foldamers, and other molecules. Particularly, the macrocyclic molecules display astoundingly strong self-association via a highly cooperative interplay of local dipole moments. The assembly of such molecules into nanotubes was probed in both solution and the solid state. Self-insertion into lipid bilayers allows these macrocycles to function as highly conducting synthetic transmembrane pores.
