I started at Browns as the Driver Welfare and Training Manager in 2020 I was made up to General Manager-Training & Welfare, I am responsible for all of our circa 60 LGV drivers Welfare and Training needs. Authorising holidays, discipline and recruitment. On the training side I coordinate the training from Driver Certificate of Professional Competency (DCPC), Fuel efficient driving and annual driving assessments. Over the last year I have worked on reducing the fleet damage which was very successful, so much so that we received for 10-15% rebate. I have also worked to improve our fleets MPG by delivering Fuel efficient theory training through DCPC and targeting underperforming drivers and delivering in cab training. The results have been encouraging. My main extra responsibility once I was General manager was work force gap analysis and succession planning.

National

At UK Mail I was employed as their Driver Training Instructor, I was responsible for the assessing the risk of our LGV Drivers and company car drivers and delivering remedial training. I also monitored and managed the company’s high-risk drivers through the use of telematics such as Isotrak and our in-cab camera system which is a coaching analytic tool. I have written policies to do with Driving standards, assessments and Driver’s fitness and competency. I also set up their trainee driver scheme which takes a car licence holder all the way through to a LGV licence holder with DCPC. I have also bought all material handling equipment training in house which as improved continuity of training standards as well as I large saving to the business.

I was employed as a Driver Trainer for Stobart Fuel; my responsibilities include assessment of potential new Drivers to the business. Training Drivers in the safe collection, transportation and delivery of Fuel and all the procedures that come with these activities. The training of Drivers on all the relevant Safe systems of work they would encounter on daily duties. I delivered the Driver CPC modules, Manual Handling training and new Driver Inductions.

I was a soldier in the Royal Engineers, for the last three and a half years I was posted to a specialist training unit as a Driving Instructor. Within this role it was my job to Driving Instruct anyone from a new recruit to an experienced special forces soldier, train personnel on any military vehicle in service at the time, teach and refresh if needed, Drivers on documentation, procedures and Driver’s hours. Previous to this I worked in one of the British Army’s busiest Motor Transport (MT) offices as a details NCO planning routes, assigning vehicles and drivers to tasks, also booking services and safety inspections for the fleet. Throughout this time, I was responsible for the collection, transportation and delivery of packed fuel, ammunition and explosives to locations all over the UK and Europe.

I was employed Police Officer based at Parkside Police station in Cambridge city centre, this is an extremely busy area to patrol. The situations I have been involved in were varied and challenging. I dealt with anything from dropping litter to very serious assaults. In this period, I attended a course in control and restraint, First Aid and water safety.

Hmp Dovegate

As a Prison Officer at HMP Dovegate my role involved the searching of cells and prisoners, the administration of the prisoners and supervising exercise and association times. During this employment I was trained to control and restraint, first aid and short duration breathing apparatus.

National

Germany, Poland, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. In these engagements I was employed as a Junior Non-commissioned Officer. In Germany, Poland and Oman I worked in 1 Div’s Engineer Reconnaissance Troop attached to 9th/12th Lancers. Whilst in Oman I was attached to the Sultans Army and tasked with training them in Armoured Reconnaissance and the use of specialist Reconnaissance equipment. In Iraq and Saudi I was in command of a section of eight men our main effort was to run two Reverse Osmosis plants providing potable water for the operating brigade in that area and UNICEF. We were also used to provide security and protection for UK nationals working in these hostile environments.
