Manager, Manufacturing Operations for FANSTEEL/WELLMAN DYNAMICS, Creston, IA, provider of premium grade aluminum and magnesium castings for helicopters, commercial aviation, private jet, and NASCAR. Managed all manufacturing operations including machinery, fabrication, and assembly. Oversaw implementation of manufacturing schedules, personnel requirements, quality control and productions standards, and safety programs. Directed shipping/receiving, production control, and x-ray processes. Managed ~290 employees.KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:• Reduced scrap from 12-13% down to 7-8% annually.• Increased productivity by 10% and efficiencies by 13%.• Delivered cost savings through restructuring initiative and consolidation of supervisory duties.• Developed procedures and work instructions in compliance with ISO/NADCAP requirements.

Process was replicated in several other manufacturing facilities.• Implemented double running system on magnesium castings, eliminating reacted sand defects.• Instituted the use of an alternate inhibitor in the magnesium sand, reducing casting defects by 20%.Project Engineer (1985 – 1997) Responsible for development of aerospace castings to specifications required by the customer.KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:• Developed from Blueprint to First Article the largest magnesium casting ever poured on a production base. • In conjunction with other project engineers, designed a full-shipped set of castings for the Bell V22 Osprey.• Established core-making techniques to enhance collapsibility of cores to facilitate a 201 and 206 high strength alloy casting process.• Developed from Blueprint to First Article the first Pratt & Whitney intermediate cases, considered the most complex magnesium castings in the world today.
