About Mark Leith
CPL(A) MEIR (IR MEA, IAP2D, IAP3D, GTE, RU, MPPC, NVFR)I am presently employed as a Cessna 208B Line Pilot conducting Air Transport flights out of Cairns. Complimentary to this role, I continue to assist in a ground handling capacity. I completed a Commercial Pilot Licence (Aeroplane) and Multi Engine Instrument Rating with Aviation Australia / MAF in Mareeba, Queensland. This course had a focus on remote area operation. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to undertake my training with a variety of aircraft and avionics (C206, C172 N/P/S, C182, PA44; Aspen Evolution, Garmin 430, 650, G1000). I have since attained a Gas Turbine Engine endorsement (PT6A-114A), and a CASA ATP(A)L Examination Theory Credit. I completed a Bachelor of Environmental Science in 2009. During my studies I worked as Coxswain / Helicopter Ground Crew, demonstrating self-discipline and focus whilst maintaining continued employment and producing a credit/distinction average. In my third year of study I was selected by a panel of Fisheries Scientists to work with the Queensland Government’s Animal Science Division. I was later chosen for the role of Senior Technical Officer in a team engaged in coastal research and mapping around Queensland. Here my responsibilities increased to encompass the design and manufacture of scientific survey equipment. In support of my team’s performance and quality assurance, I developed and successfully implemented extended deployment sub–sea data logging and imaging equipment purposed to record environmental variation in seagrass meadows. In this position, I navigated commercial vessels in remote locations and busy ports; as well as oversaw the safety of dive activities and maintenance of equipment. I was involved in the design and deployment of helicopter and UAV based remote sensing equipment, and frequently participated in aerial mapping and surveying. Whilst undertaking my role, it was paramount that I function as part of an effective team with an emphasis on clear communication and safe operation.
