The leader in the music streaming business, Spotify has achieved over $2 billion in annual revenues and more than 80 million customers. The business model includes both a paid subscription service and a free service that generates advertising revenues.The company maintains headquarter operations in Stockholm with major business functions in New York City. I was hired to ready the company for its IPO, including migrating finance operations from Stockholm to New York City, staff up the finance organization, enhance processes, controls and procedures and implement a new ERP system. I opted to leave the business to pursue other opportunities.

VMware pioneered the development and application of virtualization technologies with x86 server-based computing, separating application software from the underlying hardware. They are a leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions that enable businesses to transform the way they build, deliver and consume information technology. Revenue grew from $400 million in 2005 to $6.0 billion in 2014.As a majority owned-subsidiary of EMC, I was asked to assume interim responsibility for overseeing the finance functions after the departure of both the CFO and controller. My initial responsibilities included managing a global finance organization of over 200 staff in the US, Europe and India, overseeing global process improvements, integrating acquisitions, revenue forecasting, developing go-to-market sales programs, technical accounting, the close process, financial analysis and reporting, earnings releases and investor calls.Subsequent to this I was involved in the structuring, negotiation and formation of Pivotal; a joint venture between EMC, GE and VMware, various software licensing arrangements and the disposition of various lines of business.

The federated businesses include EMC Information Infrastructure, VMware Virtual Infrastructure, Pivotal, RSA Security and Virtustream.The earlier part of my career focused on overseeing the accounting organization, financial reporting and analysis and process improvement. Subsequent to this I became heavily involved in the M&A process working on over 60 acquisitions, strategic investments and joint ventures. My responsibilities including developing financial models, valuations, diligence, transaction structuring and integration. During my tenure I also managed the IPO process for VMware, jointly managed a $3.5 billion public debt offering and sat on numerous operational oversight committees.

As a senior team member during the company’s growth phase from $200 million to $1 billion in revenues, I participated in the company’s initial and secondary public offerings, master lease financing and public and private debt offerings. I also participated in the formation of Einstein Noah Bagel Corporation, including acquisitions to form the company and its IPO.
