Working at an inter-agency fire station for the US Forest Service and BLM I needed to be able to work on either Type 3 wildland engine seamlessly, knowing the engine and the crew. This required me to have knowledge of the tools on the engine, how to use them, knowing where tools are stored, and making sure they are clean and fire-ready every morning. Also I needed to know how much hose, what kind of hose, where the appliances were located, and how to use each type of hose and appliance. By knowing all these things it made me a valuable crewmember to BLM engine 3132 and US Forest Service Engine 11.To be more of a help and because I want to progress and move up as a firefighter I got my Class B CDL permit to drive the engine. I was able to take shifts while driving to the many assignments we got off forest in Texas, Arizona, and Wyoming. Also I was able to work as an engine operator and pump water to the hose lay, communicate with the firefighters as to how the water pressure was and tactics. I also drafted water by suction and ejection and helped solve problems that would rise while fighting fire.I also learned more about the administrative side of the BLM. I learned about Quicktime, Lotus Notes, and how to use the codes for entering times. I also helped our captain out with a new vehicle we received at the station. It needed to be fire ready with a center console, tool boxes installed and people contacted to install radios, and the light bar.I was also one of the Medical Managers for the crew. This meant I was to keep an up to date inventory of the medical supplies, know what each engine had on it for supplies, know how to use all of the equipment. I was to tend for my crew when we had a medical situation come up and we also would respond to medical emergencies on the highway by the station.

When I started on this crew I started on the Chipping Crew. Working with a partner, I would drive and navigate a large chipping truck around South Lake Tahoe. I would chip the piles of wooded debris in front of the homes, clean up any leftover debris and help answer any questions or concerns the community had. After working on the Chipping Crew for a few months I was able to prove myself and move to project work. Project work included working all around South Lake Tahoe to suppress all wildland fires that threatened the community. This was accomplished by improving the native forest composition and structure in and around South Lake, by increasing canopy base height and reducing crown density, also reducing the amount of dead and down that can carry a wildfire. We met these goals by working in teams as sawyer swamper building burn piles for the winter season. When we went on assignment and fought fire we dug hand line required to stop the forward movement of the fire. Using the Pulaski, I removed the green, cut roots and other objects in order to expose the mineral soil to stop the flame from crossing or a trench to stop rolling debris. Also on this crew I was a Medical Manager and Truck Manager. As Medical Manager I carried a medical kit with me at all times to care for the crew. I stayed up to date on Lake Valley Medical SOPs and county SOPs. As a Truck Manager I drove the crew to and from project work, to and from fire assignment safely. Also cleaned the truck, preformed daily checks every morning, recorded the checks and any problems I found.Over all I helped with fuel reduction in South Lake Tahoe and fire line construction on fire assignment.

I was to teach 20 to 30 students Adobe Photoshop for home and commercial use. This meant I needed to teach with different strategies to insure that all students from 18 to 50 years old learned what they needed to pass the class. I also made sure I was available outside of class to help students with class work when needed.
