Mark M. Email and Phone Number
Over a 30 year Insurance Broking career I have worked for large, independent and captive Brokers, placing cover for well in excess of USD 1 Trillion of global assets, operating and under construction. Initially a claims Broker for C E Heath, I led negotiations and collected large claims for Marine Aviation and Energy clients, leaving Heath in 1999 to join a newly formed Marine division at Swire Frasier, which was ultimately acquired by Benfields. During this period I began to focus on Energy as the claims adjuster for an Underwriting Agency. Some years later, after the senior team from Heath had regrouped at Cooper Gay (now Ardonagh Group) I agreed to re-join as a placing Broker late in 2004. Valuable experience was gained working for major global natural gas and oil companies and wholesaling for leading US Brokers. In 2007 I joined a small captive Broker, AAA. AAA was the captive of Sonangol, Angolas state Energy company, and its team included some of the most senior and recognised Energy experts in the London market. During this period I worked on some of the biggest projects at that time – including Chevron’s complex Congo River Crossing project. I also worked on major global construction and operating risks in Russia and India. In 2012 I joined Willis as Executive Director, with particular focus on Latin America, undertaking extensive travel across the region servicing the major state interests together with many smaller risks and contractor accounts, successfully securing major accounts for Willis at tender against the other big Brokers. In 2018 I agreed to join a small local independent Broker, Primassure, securing the relevant permissions and invites to become a new Lloyd’s Broker later that year. At Primassure I developed a growing African Energy account, most notably in Ghana. I am also proud to have been appointed to insure the decommissioning of the very first platform to drill in the North Sea. Upon reflection I note that my experience, particularly in Angola and Brazil, has given me relatively detailed knowledge and understanding of deep-water development, drilling and construction projects and the challenges that they can present. In 2023 I joined Tysers to develop our global Energy capability. I continue to serve my African clients and North Sea producers, whilst endeavouring to learn about energy transition, renewables and engaging with the emerging carbon capture and storage (CCS) risks.
