Lead Thermal Engineer for Large Scale Marine Propulsion MotorsDesigned and analyzed cooling systems for large scale permanent magnet based marine propulsion systems. Distilled customer specifications into workable designs and substantiated performance for surface and submarine applications while ensuring system life cycle requirements were met. •Thermal and fluid modeling of motor stators, embedded cooling tubes, and cold plates using first principles thermal circuits and thermal FEA models to ensure acceptable temperature profiles were maintained for service life requirements.•Substantiated mission critical component durability against steam bubble collapse induced water hammer, ensuring a robust design for casualty and off design operation.•Designed tubing, piping, and cold plates for water cooled forced convection cooling of motor components to allow for interface with customer supplied connections and specification compliance with flow rates, pressure drop, total heat dissipation, and coolant discharge temperatures.•Modeled cross flow finned tube heat exchanger performance and CFD analysis of internal motor cavity airflow provided by a radial fan to allow for effective forced air cooling and heat transfer to cooling water flows.•Interfaced with internal multidisciplinary technical team members to confirm thermal inputs and predicted temperatures were aligned with performance expectations.•Communicated component requirements to suppliers via released drawings and vendor site visits, allowing for technical compliance while ensuring budgetary and schedule constraints were met.•Preparation and presentation of technical updates and final reports to multidisciplinary reviewers from domestic and foreign naval audiences, including leading onsite interim working meetings and analysis strategy discussions.•Maintained schedule and labor hours in Cost Account Management role to provide program updates and ensure timely delivery of technical reports.
